miquir

overview

You have to be a stupid genius to make as big a mistake as Miquir. Not so much a 'person' as a 'sentient force of time and causality', Miquir is a mechanism by which such a stupid genius attempted order the universe under a set of laws meant to prevent all suffering... and which would also remove free will. Well, reality already has its own laws, and doesn't appreciate harebrained intrigues like this shouldering in on its holy position.

Miquir's very existence, as such, is extremely illegal. To stop everything from falling apart, the universe has rejected Miquir's existence and merged him with the fundamental concept of 'non-existence', by which he is now legal. However, this merging has also corrupted Miquir into a flawed form, and severed him into a void — but those are all problems for his corrupt manifestation to deal with.

Miquir himself? He's not here, and he's chillin'.

anywhere.

story

story

Miquir was willed into existence by Camellia. Immediately, the very next instant, the universe broke. How?

Well let’s look at how the universe works.

Everything exists by the interaction of two forces: Pleroma and Kenoma. Pleroma is the force of conception — everything that exists can do so because its underlying concept exists in Pleroma. The concept of strawberries exists in Pleroma, so strawberries can exist. The concept of bravery exists in Pleroma, so bravery can exist. Etcetera. But concepts in Pleroma are all undefined, so if you looked only at Pleroma... well you wouldn’t see anything but Pleroma. It’s just a big globe of raw concept.

Kenoma is the force of nothingness and individuation. It defines the concepts in Pleroma by expressing them in physical reality. So it reads some fragment of Pleroma all like “hmmm… small… sweet… red… berry… fruit… seeds… outside…” and associates those concepts together to mean “a small, sweet red fruit, that is a berry, with seeds on the outside” and BOOM strawberries happen. But it could’ve just as easily been “A fruit, that is a berry, with sweet outsides and small red seeds.” Which wouldn’t be a strawberry, more like a brawberry, but since Kenoma interpreted that concept bundle as a strawberry, brawberries don’t exist. But they could, theoretically.

Kenoma is expressed in the physical world as the space between objects that keeps everything from melding together. Pleroma always mirrors the physical world, but never fluctuates in conceptual ‘mass,’ so when things change too much in the physical world, the universe reconstructs itself to equalise Pleroma. Which usually just means Kenoma’s interpretations shift a little, and these are so minor and constant that nobody notices it.

Now what does this all mean for Miquir.

When Camellia made Miquir, he intuitively drew on concepts that did not exist in Pleroma. “Wait, what!?” you scream. Yes. Then he synthesised those concepts into a complex entity, conceived how that entity would work, contemplated his blueprint like, “yep, this makes sense,” and just made it.

He just made it.
He "just made" a soul with no relation to Pleroma, that is to say, he made the second true thing in existence. I can't emphasize enough how insane this is.

You know that thing kids do in arguments, where they're winning times infinity? And how that doesn't really make sense but, ok? And then another kid will show up and say they're winning times infinity plus one? Which makes even less sense, but is impossible to argue against? Camellia did that. He infinity plus one'd the universe by making Miquir.

The instant that Miquir manifested physically, which was also the instant he was created, Pleroma was thrown catastrophically out of homeostasis. There was nothing in it that reflected Miquir, even though he existed in the physical world. It's like a shadow existing with nothing to cast it. It just doesn't make sense.

The universe fixed this problem by reading Miquir's existence as something that both did and didn't exist, which conveniently describes Kenoma. It converted Miquir into an avatar of Kenoma, which converged solely onto him. Miquir, now Arsene, would have been doomed to sentient non-existence in an endless void if he hadn't ripped Camellia out of Pleroma.

personality

appearance

A short, youthful, friendly-looking humanoid of indefinable species. When he moves, constellations of fine shiny scales glimmer across his body, while his platinum-gold skin, hair, and eyes shimmer iridescently under the light. Though his exact species remains unclear, the air of effortless tranquillity and natural beatitude about him peg him reflexively as something divine.

His presence is easily disregarded, not because he lacks substance, but because, like air, his influence is so pervasive that his attendance anywhere becomes mundane.

personality

Incapable of feeling any negative emotions, Miquir exists in a constant state of contentment and bliss. Loneliness, sadness, anger? Get out of here. Felicity, euphoria, rapture? Now that’s his jam. The most acrimonious emotion Miquir can feel is ‘soothing peace’, with even such mild things as concern or boredom slipping completely beyond his faculties. He just never gets bored. Never.

Miquir loves his life, loves existing, and loves that he was made incapable of anything else. His loyalty to Camellia is ironclad, driven by preprogrammed bias and by simple gratitude. He considers guiding the world his purpose, does so joyfully, and revels in Camellia’s happiness especially.

Otherwise, Miquir is a very passive, well-intentioned, and calm individual, verging on robotic. Though he has the free will and sentience to act independently, he usually defers, principally to Camellia and Camellia’s interests. Everything said, though, Miquir’s nature as an extratemporal-omnitemporal entity really hampers his ability to interact with temporal lifeforms in an especially comprehensible, personal, or reciprocal way. It doesn’t bother Miquir, and he’s probably being friendly, but when you’re on the receiving end, it’s a bit… yeah.

powers

TRUE IMMORTAL CONSTITUTION

Miquir is a spiritual creature unbound to physical reality. Though he may manifest avatars of himself in reality, truthfully he is and occupies a higher, purely conceptual dimension composed only of himself. This dimension is expressed physically as the movement of temporal states. Miquir’s influence is present in any such places with motion, but his existence does not rely on them.

He regards reality the way we might regard a video game, with an entire dimension separating us from events on the screen. That said, when he exists in reality, he is genuinely existing there, both generally and through the perspective of his avatar. Though it is still just an avatar, and forces that influence it do not influence Miquir. Physical Manifestation Miquir typically manifests his avatar in humanoid shape. He is supernaturally fast and strong, more durable than a regular human, and can manifest functional wings. He doesn’t need to eat, drink, sleep, or breathe, but does do these things. His avatar can die if sufficiently damaged, but… it’s Miquir.

His spiritual form is a snake biting its own tail, with eyes all down his body, obfuscating the location of his head. He rotates constantly in harmony with the passage of time. His many great, feathered wings block everything but him out from sight. An aurora of blue light radiates from between his scales like fire. Inside the loop he forms is another iteration of himself, and inside that loop is another, and inside that loop is etc etc etc, into infinity – it's impossible to tell where he starts and ends.

time powers

Miquir has crazy, insane, ridiculous time powers beyond the scope of human comprehension. Though he has the generalised ability to manipulate time, the following aspects of his powerset are the most important, and overshadow everything else: Quantum Omnitemporality Miquir is best conceptualised as a natural force that is always acting upon the world. He’s like magnetism, or gravity, or motion, or heat, or relativity, or any other fundamental physical law. Except Miquir is sentient, is fundamentally non-physical, and his domain is time.

Time in this setting is an illusion born from motion. There is only ever one extant state of the universe: the present. The past and future are not things that can be ‘travelled’ to, as they don’t exist; they are voids. There are no ‘timelines’, only the ‘current state of existence’. This universal ‘state’ changes the instant that any single particle in the universe shifts position, moving one infinitesimally small unit from wherever it was the last nanosecond.

Consider the universe like a giant animation. But each frame only comes into existence once it is passing, and is deleted the instant that it has passed.

Miquir breaks the nature of time because he infinitely exists in every state of the universe, simultaneously. He also exists in every potential state of the universe: ie, ones where a particle randomly moved left instead of right, and all the states that would consequently arise from this minuscule difference. Such potential states would normally never exist - in fact, they still do not exist - but Miquir exists in them regardless.

Miquir's perception of the universe is insane. He is infinitely existing in every potential state of the universe. If something has ever happened, or could possibly happen, by Miquir's perspective, it is genuinely happening right now. He is living in it right now, and will always be living in it, actively, forever. So time is not a sequence to him; it is an unfathomable number of individual states, all of which he inhabits. Causality Dictation Miquir's primary power, which requires all this exposition, is that he can string together universal states to form what looks like a continuity. So he is actively authoring timelines, or making 'animations of the universe', by stringing together sequences from all the 'frames' at his disposal.

However, it is still impossible to travel to the past or future, and to call it a timeline is something of a misnomer. Though Miquir knows what will happen 'next' in a sequence, that 'next' state does not exist until he puts it there.

The events of a 'timeline' do not need to make temporal sense. Miquir can shove a state where the sun was just born immediately after a state where the sun has exploded. Or he can shove a state that only occurs under a certain subset of conditions immediately after a state where those conditions are not met. Such as, putting a state where Little Jimmy is purchasing a mint ice cream immediately after a state where Jimmy enjoys the vanilla ice cream he just purchased. Jimmy will not notice this change – from his perspective, he never purchased any vanilla ice cream.

In short, free will does not exist when Miquir exists. The universe becomes deterministic, and everything that happens in it occurs because Miquir decided it should happen.

Technically, Miquir doesn’t need to always dictate how events will proceed. But since he is coded to make the universe suit Camellia's purposes, he will always move the universe at any opportunity he can, to make it more beneficial by Camellia's standards.

Miquir cannot create new states on his own. He can only work with the possibilities that are already out there. If it is genuinely impossible for a certain state to occur, Miquir will never be able to make it occur. That said, his own ability to manifest and interact with the world must be factored in when considering what can occur – perhaps certain states are only possible because Miquir hypothetically manifested and did something.

Look it’s my dad. My dad is so cool. He loves me so much. I love him too.

I’m here to help him. I like to help. He made me like helping. That was so nice.

He is so good. He wants these good things. I listen.

arsene

self

This is what the universe spat out when it tried to comprehend Miquir. The similarities are there, many of them, but…

…We’ll agree Camellia got it right the first time.

Miquir is unaware of Arsene's existence, as Miquir is frozen in the single instant of time that predates Arsene.
